US Steel Imports at 6-month Low
US steel imports fell for a second consecutive month after hitting a 29-month high of 3.6 Mt in June, dropping to a 6-month low of 3.0 Mt in August, although still up by 0.3 Mt year-on-year, US Census Bureau data show. Imports in the first eight months of this year of 24.1 Mt were 4.1 Mt higher than the corresponding period in 2016. US imports of Turkish steel fell sharply to a 3.5-year low of less than 0.1 Mt in August, whereas shipments from the EU climbed to the highest level since January 2014 at 0.8 Mt.
