AUSTRALIAS COAL EXPORTS IN JANUARY REMAIN STRONG |

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australias coal exports in January slipped slightly from their all-time high of 26.8 Mt set in December 2009 to 25.5 Mt, posting a 26% increase year-on-year. Steam coal exports fell by 9% year-on-year to 11.8 Mt in January. In contrast, metallurgical coal exports in the same month showed a massive 88% increase year-on-year to 13.7 Mt, although this was 0.6 Mt lower than the peak of 14.3 Mt at the end of last year. |
